ABOUT

Claudia Schneider is the visionary force behind Lady and Co Studios, a mother- and women-led analogue photography practice she founded in 2021 in Somerset West. Rooted in slowness and intention, her studio stands as a quiet rebellion against digital haste – a sanctuary where images are crafted with patience, reverence, and extraordinary care.

Working exclusively with film, Claudia moves fluidly between 35mm, medium, and large format processes. She does not simply take photographs; she communes with light. Each exposure is deliberate, each frame a negotiation between instinct and discipline. Film is her chosen language grain, chemistry, and imperfection her trusted collaborators. In her hands, analogue is not nostalgia; it is power.

Her practice lingers on women, motherhood, and the intimate rituals of daily life. Bodies move through landscapes; landscapes hold memory. Nude figures immersed in water recur as elemental studies of the divine feminine soft yet unyielding, vulnerable yet sovereign. Her images are not designed for passive viewing; they unfold as meditations. They ask to be felt.

Claudia brings her photographs to life through an expansive range of traditional and historical printing processes-from meticulous hand development and darkroom enlargements to Polaroid emulsion lifts and cyanotype printmaking. Each method is approached as ritual. Chemistry, touch, time, and chance converge to produce works that are tactile, dimensional, and irreducibly physical. These are not reproductions; they are singular objects.

The alchemy of film and paper is central to her ethos, and she is equally devoted to teaching these processes, generously passing on analogue knowledge through workshops and mentorship. Process, for Claudia, is both craft and communion.

In November 2023, the birth of her son, Jude, marked a profound evolution in both life and work. Motherhood did not interrupt her practice; it deepened it. Lady and Co Studios became a living collaboration between artist and child, expanding its emotional register and sharpening its gaze. The maternal perspective now threads through her work with unmistakable authority.

Claudia Schneider’s oeuvre asserts that analogue photography is not a medium of the past, but of presence. Her work stands firm within contemporary discourse while honouring historical process-bridging lineage and immediacy with rare sensitivity and conviction.

Lady and Co Studios welcomes sessions, curatorial dialogue, commissions, exhibitions, workshops, and meaningful collaborations. Claudia Schneider offers not merely photographs, but a way of seeing —measured, embodied, and enduring.
